As part of INBAR’s participation in the World Expo in Shanghai, the ‘2010 INBAR Congress on Bamboo and Rattan’  is being held from 20-22 May 2010 to explore the multiple interfaces between the bamboo and rattan sectors and the improvement of cities, particularly in the developing world. The Congress will bring together policymakers, forestry and agricultural research experts, scientists, development practitioners and corporate representatives from around the world to assess how bamboo and rattan contribute to the Expo's theme of ‘Better City, Better Life’. We cordially invite you to attend what promises to be an exciting and stimulating event.

Located in the heart of Shanghai, China’s most populous city, the Expo offers participants a chance to discover how governments and organizations around the world are approaching the questions of how to design, build and improve the cities of the 21^st Century.  Bamboo and rattan are widely used in the construction of the Expo pavilions and facilities (including INBAR’s Expo Pavilion), providing innovative examples of how both resources can be used in impressive and novel designs. Against this background, the Congress will explore the important contributions of uses of bamboo and rattan in many sectors.
