In the old days, candles were made primarily from beeswax. But during industrial revolution, beeswax was replaced by paraffin, which is the by-product refined from petroleum. Each day, the Yankee Candle, thousands of gallons of paraffin delivered by tanker trucks enter massive holding tanks. At this point, the paraffin looks like clean and clear water. The tanks keep warm so it won’t harden. Then scents and fragrances are added.
